On 21st November 2013, Mr. Shigenobu Kobayashi, Charge d’Affaires for the Embassy of Japan in Malawi and Hon. Sidik Mia, Chairperson of Sidik Mia Foundation signed a grant contract for the Project for Construction of Jombo Community Day Secondary School in Chikwawa District. The grant signed amount to USD119, 554 (about K46 million at present value) provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.

Access to secondary education in Jombo area is a challenge. According to the 2013 statistics, Nchalo Zone where Jombo area belongs had over 900 pupils qualified for secondary education. However, only 16.8% were selected to secondary school leaving the rest to either walk a long distance to a nearest school or to drop out. This grant will ease this problem through the construction of two school blocks to accommodate about 200 students from form one to form four, one administration block and two pit latrine blocks.

After the completion of the project, it is expected that the number of pupils accessing secondary education will increase. The occasion was graced by Honourable Lucious Kanyumba, Minister of Education, Science and Technology.
